Solar Panel Distributor and Installer Uses Sales Cloud to Grow Fast

All American Solar was growing, and its CRM needs were growing with it. The company needed a system it could maintain without a dedicated admin, plus real reporting on sales progress, project installation updates, KPIs, and overall ROI. We delivered a Salesforce Quick Start implementation built on Sales Cloud, covering lead and opportunity processes, field configuration, Gmail synchronization, dashboards, and on-site training. After implementation, All American Solar posted 16% quarterly growth year over year, and reporting on opportunities and sales metrics became meaningfully easier for the team.

A Growing Solar Business That Needed a CRM It Could Actually Run

All American Solar distributes and installs solar panels, which means the business runs on two tracks at once. There’s the sales side, tracking leads from first inquiry through to a signed agreement, and there’s the installation side, where each project needs to be scheduled, executed, and reported on. Both tracks feed the same question: is the business growing profitably?

For a small and mid-sized business, that question is surprisingly hard to answer without the right system. All American Solar came to us needing a Salesforce implementation for small business that could handle both sides without becoming a project of its own to maintain.

The Challenge: A CRM That Stays Simple While the Business Scales

All American Solar’s requirements were short and specific, which is usually a sign a company knows exactly where it’s losing time:

•      Provide a CRM solution that was easy to maintain, so the team wouldn’t need a full-time administrator to keep it running

•      Make sure that solution was scalable, able to grow with the business rather than needing a rebuild in two years

•      Deliver reporting on sales progress, project installation updates, KPIs, and overall ROI in one place

The tension between the first two points is what shapes most SMB CRM projects. A system simple enough to maintain in-house often can’t scale, and a system built to scale often becomes too complex for a small team to own. The job was to land in between.

Our Approach: A Salesforce Quick Start Implementation Built for Speed

We ran this project through our Quick Start program, which is designed for exactly this situation: a company that needs Salesforce working properly and quickly, without the timeline or budget of a full enterprise engagement. A Salesforce Quick Start implementation focuses on getting the core processes right first, then leaves the org in a state that can be extended later.

We began with baseline Lead Management and Opportunities processes. Before configuring anything, we mapped how All American Solar actually moves a prospect from first contact through to an installed system, then built the Sales Cloud stages around that flow rather than accepting Salesforce defaults.

From there we handled standard and custom field configuration across Leads, Contacts, Accounts, and Opportunities, adding the fields the solar business genuinely needs while resisting the temptation to add fields nobody would fill in. Every unnecessary field on a page layout is a small tax on adoption.

Next came structure. We created and segmented Contacts, Accounts, Record Types, Users, and Roles so the right people saw the right records, and so different types of business could be tracked distinctly rather than lumped together. Record Types in particular gave All American Solar room to grow, because new lines of business can be added later without reworking the whole org.

We then set up bidirectional synchronization between All American Solar’s Gmail and Salesforce using Lightning for Gmail. Sales conversations happen in email, and if logging them means switching applications, they don’t get logged. The Salesforce Gmail integration meant activity flowed both ways automatically, keeping records complete without adding a step to anyone’s day.

Reporting came next, through standard Dashboards covering sales progress, installation updates, KPIs, and ROI. We deliberately used standard dashboard functionality rather than custom development, which keeps the reporting layer something All American Solar’s own team can adjust as their questions change.

The engagement finished with 4 hours of on-site training. For a Quick Start, that hands-on session is what turns a configured org into a system people actually use from week one.

Tools and Products Used

This Salesforce Sales Cloud implementation stayed on standard platform functionality, which is what kept it fast and maintainable:

•      Salesforce Sales Cloud: the CRM platform at the center of the build, configured around All American Solar’s sales and installation workflow

•      Leads, Contacts, Accounts, and Opportunities: the core objects, configured with both standard and custom fields matched to the solar business

•      Record Types, Users, and Roles: used to segment records and control access, giving the org room to scale as the business grows

•      Lightning for Gmail: enabled bidirectional Gmail synchronization so email activity and Salesforce records stayed aligned automatically

•      Standard Dashboards: built to report on sales progress, project installation updates, KPIs, and overall ROI without custom development

Four hours of on-site training completed the Quick Start program, handing the system over to a team ready to run it.

The Results: 16% Quarterly Growth and Reporting That Takes Minutes

The clearest result is growth. After implementation, All American Solar recorded 16% quarterly growth year over year, with a CRM now supporting the sales process rather than sitting alongside it.

The second result is the one the team notices daily. Reporting for opportunities and sales metrics is now easier and more efficient, because the dashboards pull from records that stay current on their own. The reporting requirements All American Solar came to us with are handled by the system rather than by someone assembling numbers manually.

Both results trace back to the same decision. Because the Quick Start build stayed on standard Sales Cloud configuration, All American Solar’s team could adopt it quickly and adjust it themselves as the business changed. A CRM that a small team can own is a CRM that keeps getting used, and that is what turns an implementation into sustained growth.
